Merry Christmas from Bold Tuesday!
Yesterday we were baking gingerbreads cookies and here's the result - a gingerbread world to inspire next year's awesome travels. If you have any time before Christmas you should bake some too! It's so soothing with all the good smells, some hot wine and especially glazing, which is kind of a meditation form in itself.
If you're a hard-core baker then why not start from scratch and make the dough yourself this year? Here's a recipe:
- 1 1/2 cups dark molasses
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2/3 cup cold water
- 1/3 cup shortening
- 7 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground allspice
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Mix together the molasses, brown sugar, water and shortening. Sift together the flour, baking soda, salt, allspice, ginger, cloves and cinnamon. Add to sugar mixture and mix well. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours. Roll dough 0.5 cm thick on floured board. Cut with floured gingerbread cutter or if you're good with handling knives you can cut images out by hand, like we did (using paper stencils). Bake for 10-12 minutes in 180C oven. Cool and decorate with frosting.
Have a wonderful, snowy and cozy Christmas!
