Bold Tuesday Does Helsinki Design Week 2016

Last weekend, we were fortunate enough to take part in the Design Market for Helsinki Design Week. Read on for a brief recap!

First of all, from us to Helsinki: thanks for all the love! We really enjoyed meeting all of you, hearing about your travels, and sending you home with something unique (and soon-to-be personal). To those from around the world visiting Helsinki: we loved exchanging origin stories and are so grateful you liked us well enough to bring your posters all the way home.

The Bold Tuesday poster that received the most love was FIND IT! WORLD. The consensus was that it was something completely unique–the perfect marriage between a well-designed print and spontaneous interactivity. Well, to that we say we're flattered, and we also couldn't agree more. That said, all of our travel posters and maps were a hit (thank you again) and it was so much fun hearing how they are going to be used, displayed, or gifted.

We learned a lot and also received some great product suggestions from visitors (some we haven't even thought of, so well done, you).

We also were honored to have been in the midst of some great design, so we'd like to give a little shoutout to a few of our favorites:

Our friends at Ööloom are making happy little face blankets (fine, sleep masks). If you haven't yet found the hidden power of the face blanket, your life is about to change. They are the cutest, softest, most comfortable thing thing to attach to your face since...well, just get one. Your sleep will improve and you'll be way more interesting.

The people over at Pure Waste are doing some amazing things. They are a Finnish company making ecologically sustainable and 100% upcycled yarn, fabrics, and garments from textile waste. Let us be [probably not] the first to tell you that their sweatshirts are game changers. GAMECHANGERS! Plus, they're saving water and saving the planet from waste–who wouldn't want to support that?

We can't stress enough the importance of going to event such as Helsinki Design Week, whether you be a designer, design-lover, or both. Seeking the stories behind products gives the items around your home meaning and personality. Alternately, it's extremely beneficial for makers to meet and engage with customers. Win-win!

So that's that. Until next time, Helsinki.
